Highland Paradise

Iceland’s highlands are a treasure-trove of vast and diverse nature untouched by human hand. These mythical landscapes are home to some of Iceland’s greatest natural wonders, from vast desolate lava plains to volcanic glaciers and serene lakes. Let us show you on this scenic helicopter tour from Hvolsvöllur which includes one landing.

On this helicopter flight we will take an up close and personal look at the famed Icelandic highlands. This centerpiece of the Icelandic country is a vast expanse of land which is home to a wealth of stunning landscapes and geological wonders, but is uninhabitable due to its harsh climate and only possible to safely visit in the summertime. That is, unless you are able to fly there by helicopter! We can offer a unique chance to see the magical highlands all year round, from the warmth and comfort of your leather seat up in the sky.

The flight takes you over the notorious glacier volcano Eyjafjallajökull before soaring over the mountainous valleys of cherished nature reserve Þórsmörk which is nestled between two glaciers. Its majesty is such that the Viking settlers aptly named it “Valley of Thor”. We fly over lake Álftavatn (Icelandic for “Swan lake”), and the imposing green mountain Mælifell which towers over its surrounding black sand plains. Our tour also takes us over the fearsome Katla caldera and the incredible Markarfljótsgljúfur canyon which stretches for miles of rocky edges. We’ll land at a special landing spot along the way, to let you touch foot on a part of Iceland way off the beaten track.

At the tour’s conclusion you’ll have seen in an hour’s flight time a great number of amazing sights which otherwise can take days of strenuous hiking and river crossing to get to witness. Don’t miss your chance to see what Iceland is really about, the wild and uncharted paradise of the highlands!
