The Sleeping Volcano – Eyjafjallajökull

Eyjafjallajökull is equally notorious as one of Iceland’s most powerful volcanoes and as a tricky tonguetwister – we’ll let you master the fearsome mountain by flying above it on our helicopter but we can’t promise you’ll master the pronounciation. Our base is very close to the volcano which allows you to fly there in a much shorter time than from the capitol area!

On this scenic 30 minute helicopter flight we show you some of the most important sights in Iceland’s impressive portfolio of natural wonders. Say glaciers and volcanoes and we’ll raise you… glacier volcanoes! Along with some gorgeous riverbeds full of vivid abstract patterns and Þórsmörk highland nature reserve nestled right between two glaciers, this tour truly packs a punch!

Glacier volcano Eyjafjallajökull famously erupted in 2010 to cause disruptions in global air traffic, as well as headaches for newscasters around the world struggling to pronounce its challenging name. But don’t feel bad, we’d be lying if we told you it isn’t a bit tricky even for the locals. A compound word meaning “Glacier (jökull) of the mountains (fjalla) of the islands (eyja)”, its unconventional vowels are as exotic as Iceland’s landscapes while the jagged consonants mimic the rocky edges and icy crevasses on top of this volcanic glacier.

This adventure of a helicopter sightseeing flight will provide you with plenty of awesome sights to write home about!
